1For the leader: a psalm: for David GOD, hear me as I make my lament; keep me safe from the terror of the enemy.
2Protect me from the intrigues of the wicked, from the mob of evildoers.
3They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim venomous words like arrows
4to shoot down the innocent from cover, shooting suddenly, themselves unseen.
5They confirm their wicked resolves; they talk of hiding snares and say, “Who will see us?”
6They hatch their evil plots; they conceal the schemes they have devised, deep in their inmost heart.
7But God with his arrow shoots them down, and sudden is their overthrow.
8He will make them fall, using their own words against them. All who see them will flee in horror,
9every one terrified. “This is God's work,” they declare; they understand what he has done.
10The righteous rejoice and seek refuge in the LORD, and all the upright in heart exult.
